Reincarnation VI: To Court. Antoni Miralda incarnated by M0nster.L4b

In May 1988, the Fundació Joan Miró was dressed as a bride. White artificial flowers blossomed from its centenary olive tree to become its bouquet and veil, and a very long pink and blue tulle in the shape of a cod covered almost a hundred metres of the exhibition rooms. The intervention was part of Antoni Miralda's Honeymoon project, a symbolic wedding between the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Columbus Monument in Barcelona, as a metaphor for the union of the two worlds looking at each other across the ocean. Spanning a ritual calendar of six years, Honeymoon was based on the progression of a series of acts and ceremonies typical of any wedding, with the third act being the Pre-wedding events held at the Fundació Joan Miró.

M0nster Codex is Reincarnation VI, staged by the creative duo M0nster.L4b, comprising Norma Pérez and Lu Chieregati, for the programme celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Fundació Joan Miró. By recovering the Honeymoon project, the duo creates a transfiction that helps to imagine the demise of capitalism and to speculate on the prospect of living against decolonial and anti-imperialist narratives.

Unable to ignore the violence inflicted on their bodies and the histories of their communities, Lu and Norma have decided to whisper a myth in six performative images.

The piece is set on 14 February 2357, 331 years after Columbus and Liberty have killed each other. The event marks the beginning of a period in which the creatures of the underworlds, the marginalised, the dissidents and queer people, together with the world population, reimagine the future, reclaim rituals, connect cosmogonies and blend monstrous metabolisms. An invitation to exercise our imaginations about the end of capitalism rather than the end of the world, as well as to shift our attention to what could happen in this fictional, and let us say, grotesque, beautiful, exaggerated, ritualistic, sexy and wet space.
